We are making available to our readers this platform. It shows that after all the reactionary bloodletting and criminal break-up of the former Yugoslavia, the idea that socialism is possible is not dead.
We are a socialist, anti-imperialist, internationalist, feminist and ecological organization that struggles for radical change and the establishment of a just, egalitarian society on the foundations of direct democracy and workers' self-management. We gather young activists from the territory of the Republic of Croatia and we act as an autonomous organization within the Socialist Workers' Party of Croatia.
Why are we socialists?
The world in which we live is deeply divided between those who govern and those who are governed.
The great majority of the world population is forced to sell its labour power to someone else for the benefit of someone else. It causes the alienation of labour and dissatisfaction. The current economic structures are undemocratic because within them the decision-makers are those who own property and not the majority that produces.
At the same time, daily we are told that we live in the best possible society and that the existing system is trying to present itself as the only one possible or as natural and normal. “Democracy” as propagated by the ideologists of this social system is restricted to elections of representatives from party lists every four years. In this way, democracy is nothing more than parliamentarism, while the real power rests with the political parties instead of the people. The leaderships of the main political parties are composed of a bureaucracy without fresh ideas and whose main objective is to maintain power and the social status quo.
Artificial borders between peoples, based on race, nation and sexual orientation are part of the same structure which gives power to the one and seizes it from the other group, which is a way of creating both ruling and oppressed classes.
The race for profits seriously endangers the environment and therefore our very survival. Man is alienated from his environment possibly more than ever before.
On the international level, capitalism causes wars in the interests of a tiny elite that governs the countries in conflict. International politics is founded on the law of the strongest. A reason for the aggression, as well as the support of domestic or world public are no longer required, which shows once more the degree of alienation of the power structures from their own people.
We are socialists because we believe that such a world has to be changed and we are ready to actively contribute to achieving such change.
Political action
The YS aims to be the political framework for activists who want radical change. We don't expect anyone to support us blindly. We want to give young people the opportunity to fight for their own emancipation themselves.
